PostSubject: Re: mage builds   mage builds I_icon_minitimeSun Dec 25, 2011 5:13 am

Hey, I have a really good mage that is unstoppable without all the armor and strength that most mages use. Here is what I would recommend using.

Equip Skills;

Blast: 1 since you'll need to use it a lot and the damage really doesn't matter.

Meteor: 10, very useful for strategic reason.

Stone Grip: 10, sounds dumb and weak but it's actually really useful if you use it right. It slows down the enemies as well as damages them pretty well. I will explain this later.

Stats: 2/3 of your stat points should go towards Energy, and the rest should be put into Endurance. It works really well, and damage is till pretty good.

Gear: Get this in order: Mp Regen, Mp, Energy, Hp Regen, Hp, Endurance, Attack Specials, Defense Specials

Passive Skills: Use Magnetic Shield, Artificer, Channeller, Spell Mastery, and another of your choice. After you've reached Level 75 maybe drop Magnetic Shield for Energy Manipulation or Faerie's Blood.

STRATEGIES: This is the most important part of this build, because if you don't know how to use the three skills, they're useless, once mastered, you're unstoppable.

Fast Enemies: Take a mob of goblins for example, just use blast once or twice to sweep them all off their feet, then use stone grip to finish them off, you can throw in meteor if you'd like but not needed. For a fast and strong enemy like a Goblin Slayer, just spam meteor and brace for some damage. You can also do this with meteor but it doesn't work as well since the enemies do get up and start moving again and they can avoid the max AoE. Stone grip slows them down and attacks at the same time, allowing you to use any other type of attack in there to assure the kill, plus if they escape just use blast again to blow them back to AoE of Stone Grip. Also this takes some practice but you can strait off use Meteor to where they are heading, it will do good damage but it is hard to aim.

Slower Enemies: Use Meteor until they die, use blast if they get too close and use Meteor again while they are down. 100% Kill.

Tough enemies: Sub-Bosses, they are usually slow, just spam meteor like you would do with a zombie.

Campers: Now THESE ARE THE MOST ANNOYING ENEMIES IN THE GAME. There will always be those Mages or archers hiding in the back of a mob that will stun you with their ranged attacks. Now since they are usually not alone, you cannot take them out first, unless you want to take a massive amount of damage. When you see these, use blast to knock all the enemies down first (Since they usually summon weaker enemies) and hail some meteors on them. If they are with a Sub-Boss, brace for some trouble and kill that Sub-Boss first, if they are with a boss, kill the mages first. Always use Meteors on these campers because they don't usually move. Tip: If you can, try to get close to them, there are glitches in the programing that makes them stop attacking you when you are close. I tested this many times and I found that you can even punch an archer or mage to death.

Circle of Enemies: When they have you surrounded, use a Faerie, OR summon Stone grip to where you are standing, this will give you some time to summon Meteors all around you. A wind Faerie is much better because it will 100% blow your enemies back a little, just enough for you to get out of there.

Mix of enemies: Take them in order: Faster enemies, Sub-Bosses, Campers, Slower enemies.

Here are my skills at level 75:

Blast: 1
Artificer: 10
Spell Mastery: 10
Channeler: 10
Energy Manipulation: Not needed but 10 anyways.
Stone Grip: 10
Meteor: 10
Faerie's Blood: 10
Last 3 points really don't matter, I didn't even spend them, I'm porbably just going to screw around with them in multiplayer. xD

How To Use This Build

1: Stay [b]AWAY from enemies, get them from far away. The two attack spells you have have a slow cast lag, so always open with a blast when you can and when they are at a distance, wipe them out.

2: Just like all Mage Builds, Mob Control is key. Try to keep all enemies on one side at all times. If you maintain that, you will for sure keep your potion use to a minimum, I hardly ever use potions unless I become surrounded.

3: When out of mana, Just spam Blast, it will keep your enemies at bay while you flush them out. KEEP YOUR MP REGEN ABOVE 66/sec. Since that's just over the MP required to call a blast, and so you can call it over and over again without stopping. Smile

4: Spamming Meteor does a great amount of damage, and when you are not moving and you are simply spamming the button assigned to Meteor more then 20 meteors can come flying down. Good in boss fights. if you are doing this you will need to use potions.

5: This build is all relied on MP REGEN, not your total amount of MP, because your attacks do cost a good amount of MP, so recovering is better than a good stock. Mp bonuses in gear is still good, just get MP REGEN first, while keeping your MP stock just over 1500MP, won't really need a lot more than that.

Edit: Hey man, don't really worry about a build until you get past the level 20 mark. Have fun!

"im pretty new to this game. saw it on psn thought i pick it up. just started a mage, any tips? when should i start worring about builds?"

Check out my mage builds in another post here. You need not worry about builds later on coz you can always re-spec. Just make sure to sell most of your stuff at the shop, buy your potions at the shop so you can make back the money you use for re-speccing easily.

"Hey, I have a really good mage that is unstoppable without all the armor and strength that most mages use. Here is what I would recommend using."

"Stats: 2/3 of your stat points should go towards Energy, and the rest should be put into Endurance. It works really well, and damage is till pretty good."

Another great option is to go hybrid energy and dex. Dex replaces end as your defensive stat but also provides a little of offense by allowing you to equip daggers (2 weapons slots for bonuses) and increasing your crit %. Dex also provides magic res unlike endurance.

"Gear: Get this in order: Mp Regen, Mp, Energy, Hp Regen, Hp, Endurance, Attack Specials, Defense Specials"

I'd say go w/ mp per kill or + mp over +mp regen or +energy early on. Later in the game you can prioritize dmg by going +crit %, +skill dmg, +dex and +eng. If you want to prioritize defense, +%dodge, +end, +%block and +hp are better priorities IMO.

"Passive Skills: Use Magnetic Shield, Artificer, Channeller, Spell Mastery, and another of your choice. After you've reached Level 75 maybe drop Magnetic Shield for Energy Manipulation or Faerie's Blood."

I'd pass on artificer unless you want to focus on auto-attacking with a staff. Going dual dagger (offense) or sword/dagger + shield (defense) is better due to extra gear bonuses. 5/10 alchemy is better than channeler. You should just dump spare points there. I usually put 3. Faerie blood is only useful against mobs and is crap for bosses. You've got enough crowd control via blast so I say keep magnetic shield for the armor bonuses. Energy manipulation is a must get actually. Along w/ spell mastery. Magic resistance is useful too.

"Circle of Enemies: When they have you surrounded, use a Faerie, OR summon Stone grip to where you are standing, this will give you some time to summon Meteors all around you. A wind Faerie is much better because it will 100% blow your enemies back a little, just enough for you to get out of there."

I would go with the stone fairy. Knockback doesn't affect certain enemies like the large ones unlike stun. Stun affects everybody except bosses. The other faerie choices are crap though.

"3: When out of mana, Just spam Blast, it will keep your enemies at bay while you flush them out. KEEP YOUR MP REGEN ABOVE 66/sec. Since that's just over the MP required to call a blast, and so you can call it over and over again without stopping. Smile"

Or you can just have maxed alchemy and spam pots so you can put more offensive bonuses like +crit%, +dex, +skill dmg and +eng on your gear. Good tip though if you're poor.
